Sebastian Stan has become a Golden Globe winner thanks to his performance in A Different Man. The 42-year-old actor took the stage at The Beverly Hilton on January 5 to accept the award for best performance by a leading actor in a musical or comedy film. After describing the movie as "not an easy" one to make, Stan delivered a pointed reminder that "our ignorance and discomfort around disability and disfigurement has to end." He urged everyone to champion more inclusive stories, adding, "One way we can do that is by continuing to champion stories that are inclusive."
Stan also shared his gratitude for girlfriend Annabelle Wallis, exclaiming, "Annabelle, I love you," and concluded by thanking his mother—who left Romania in pursuit of a better life—and his stepfather Tony, for taking on the responsibility of raising him.
Hugh Grant (Heretic), Gabriel LaBelle (Saturday Night), Jesse Plemons (Kinds of Kindness), Glen Powell (Hit Man), and Jesse Eisenberg (A Real Pain) were among the other nominations in the category. From a dramedy about separated cousins investigating Poland's Jewish heritage (A Real Pain) to a villainous character with a hint of dread in Heretic (Grant) to a humorous riff on Saturday Night's origins (LaBelle), each delivered a unique comedic twist this year.
Stan earned dual leading-actor nods this year—having also played a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice—and is coming off 2023 recognition for Pam & Tommy. Next on the horizon, he'll reprise his Marvel role as Bucky Barnes in Thunderbolts.
